Serious Wake-Up Call
So I’m sure by now most of you have heard how our environment isn’t in the best shape…then there’s all these simple things you can do to help…different ways of giving back…a lot of dangerous events are occuring that could lead up to something horrific…some even claim it’s nearing the end of humanity…well, I had my wake-up call this morning!
Every morning, I get up and head straight for the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. Today, I went to turn on the sink, and something with our water pressure had been screwed up, and I had only a few drips of water to work with. I thought, “Did we use the whole supply? Did I break the sink?”…and then I began contemplating whether the nearby brushfires had anything to do with it…,”Were the firemen using up the water to fight the fires?” I thought. As the few drips barely moistened by toothbrush, I was hit by something… no, not literally, but by a completely terrible thought! People had always told me to conserve water, and I’d tried my best to take short showers, to turn off the faucet while brushing my teeth, to recycle, to buy eco-friendly lightbulbs…but today, it dawned on me that I would have no way to survive without my water…DUH! First, I’d have to drink all the bottled waters and use those until they ran out, then the soda, then the other juices and liquids…could humans survive without water? No! DUH! But are we doing that much to conserve water…eh, kinda, not really!
There was no way for me to shower, clean my dishes…anything! And, although it was only a little problem with the water pressure, I began thinking that if we keep wasting water and nonrenewable resources, we’re on our way to running out of stuff…quickly! You’d be surprised how much damage we’ve done in the past few years, decades, centuries.
Since I’m only 14, it’s my generation… all of my friends, basketball team, you guys…we have to do our part. And I’m not pushing you to become an environmentalist, or get carried away in trying to save the planet, but it’s so easy to do little things! For example, unplug your phone/camera/laptop chargers and tv/radios when not in use, turn off the lights when exiting a room, add “eco-friendly lightbulbs” to the shopping list, and your parents can help install them…even ask if they’d get you a Hybrid as your first car!
All I’m saying is, when people tell you that it’s up to YOU to help save the environment, they’re not kidding! WE all have a lot of work needing to be done…but by starting small, we can take the necessary steps to achieving a healthier community, state, country, and eventually, universe!

See this is what I do to help the environment at my school my friends and i pick up all the trash people throw and when I’m not at school I use solar powered air freshners. Well my brothers shoes really smell so to get rid of that you stuff newspaper in their shoes and it absorbeds the smell. So that’s what I’m doing so far.

you are the one who helped me start!
Ofcourse my mum was recycling every little thing that was available for recycling and me and my 2 younger sisters we helping and going to the recycling ever 2-4 days because our green recycling bag was practically over the top!
And then when I went to school in the science club we were learning about running out of coal and fossil fuels and it really got some sence into me to see this was a good idea!
Then when I got home I decided to spend at least 1hour on the computer then turn it off at the plug when I went on your website when you posted a blog about protecting the enviornment and the polar bears only ending up in zoos and elephants having to spray sand over them to cool down and the words you put that in shocked life into me and I nearly took a fliping panic attack thinking about none of those beautiful things!!!!!!!
And ever since I’ve been driving my whole family crazy to recycle, turn of switches, reduce the use of water, ect.
Everytime I see a light on not needed or a plug im staright at it…….

Microwave
Turble Dryer
Washing Machine
Televisions (3)
Computers (2)
Laptop
Cd’s
ect…….
I reduced a regular 20 minute shower to a 8minute shower!
I turn water off when brushing my teeth and keep driving my sisters (7, and 4) maddd!!
My poor sister who is 7 has autism and keeps helping me turn off the plugs and I accidently forgot to throw an oasis bottle in recycle and she was screaming and shouting “Noel, recycle that, recycle that, help the world” and I was like “awwwwwwwwwk”

Dear Alyson,
I completely agree with you, we don’t do enough to help the environment, and we should. Some people don’t realize that when they waste energy, or pollute stuff they are affecting themselves and the people around them. At my house we recycle plastic bottles, paper, magazines, and, cans. We also watch how much electricity we use. My neighborhood is really awful when it comes to the environment, there is trash everywhere you turn, highways, sidewalks, parks, schools, you name it. It’s just like you said, people need to wake up. They need to wake up and realize, there putting the environment, and its people all in danger and we should all do something about it. hi alyson! i completely agree with you. we need to do more to help the enviroment. i live in georgia and there’s been some major water problems here. my family and i conserve water by taking short showers and using the water from the shower to wash clothes. we buy eco-friendly lightbulbs and we recycle all of our plastic, metal and glass things. we also try to use the car as little as possible and walk more. anyway, thanks for spreading awareness about enviromental problems! you’re a great role model! xoxoxo

hi you are soooooo right.i havent even thought about all of our precious plants and animals dying just because of some stupid pollilution!i am starting to stop taking a long shower and i am going to start thinking about how i can help save the world.this is my motto “stop killing trees!!!!!”(dont do homework)that is what i say to my bffls.(best friends 4 life)they are starting to get annoyed

i already do tons of stuff to help the earth but i do NOT believe in global warming when my parents were kids people said there was going to be a second ice age and every one would freeze to death that never happened did it and a few days ago it snowed in mississppi in the SOUTH yeah global warming is really going to happen since it SNOWED in the SOUTH but i do try to save the earth with water problems and all by the way im your biggest fan on earth bye

Hey it’s Sara here I was just checking out your blog and I was wondering is there anyway to conserve energy without unplugging all that stuff cause I really hate to unplug all my stuff cuz I have almost everything on that list, and I hate having to reset my alarm clock all the time. I think that Alysons right our enviroment needs to change. I see garbage everyday and I don’t do anything about it! well I guess that people can’t do to much. But I think that if you do want to change your ways here are some ideas.
conserve water.
plant a flower or if you can a tree when or if you can.
don’t use styrofoam it takes a chemical that is essential to clouds.
don’t litter and recycle or al least throw garbage in the trash.
and try to visit some websites and learn more about how we all can save animals, air, and yourself.
I hope that this will change all of your bad actions.

You are so right we all need to reduce, reuse, and recycle much more! Our family dose most of the littel things to help such as; recycling old paper, using eco-friendly light bulbs, we also turn water off when not in use and lights, and i will as hard as it may be for me to cut back on shower time(lol).
I’m glad more people are starting to become aware of the changes our earth is rapidly coming to. but i see many things being done like they are coming out with or alredy came out with an eco-friendly car! i thought that was cool… well i relly liked the super short show and also i am looking forward to hering you on phineus and ferb!

Alyson is right. But kids arnt the problem parents are. Just by driving their car they increase global warming.If their is global warming then some trees will die.If trees die then the oxygen level lowers. If the oxygen level lowers then people will start to die out.If people die out then BYE BYE TO CIVILAZATION.

Hi Alyson,
Well for the environment I try to conserve things. I have been shuting off my water while brushing my teeth and shuting off the lights when nobody’s in the room!! Even when I’m not on the computer or watching TV or whateva i shut it off when i’m done!!
I can’t wait till the movie Camp Rock comes out I really want to see it. Also I watch Phineas and Ferb all the time!! I think it’s hilarious!! I always laugh!! Well I gotta go so BYE!!!

I always recycl stuff and I turn the water off when I’m brushing. In the summer, garbege blows in are yard from people, but I always pick it up. And we pick up pop cans in the ditches. Thats how I try to help.

hey alyson….to help the enviorment on weekends me n like 15-20 friends go to all the local parks and pick up the garbage and we also make projects out of recycle things!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!
